Project X: Painted Bookcase

I’ve been itching to take on a home-improvement/DIY project lately—because I don’t have a million other things to do, right?—and I think updating an old, three-shelf bookcase may just be the way to scratch it. Inspired by some photos I’ve seen floating around magazines, Pinterest and the Internet in general, I’ve decided I either want to paint or wallpaper the inside of the shelves. Right now, I’m leaning toward a white frame and a bright, dandelion-yellow inside (like the one above), but I’ve also seen some neat ideas using wallpaper and other colors.

Here are a few that have piqued my interest:
Which is your favorite? And would you opt for wallpaper or paint?

  2. To paper or not to paper….I guess it depends on the surroundings. If it’s next patterned furniture or curtains don’t paper it. Sometimes simple is best–especially if you want to really showcase the items on the shelves. Notice how the items on the painted shelves really pop? That’s what I’d go for. If you want a softer look without all popping items then go for the paper. Can’t wait to see your finished project!

What are your thoughts?
