Most people who know me know that I have this habit—some call it a fault, I call it normal—of absolutely hating surprises. Well, let me clarify: I hate when someone tells me they have a surprise for me and then refuses to reveal what it is immediately. It’s probably just the worrier in me, but left to my own devices, I spend hours, days, even weeks coming up with crazy ideas for what the surprise could possibly be. That’s why, for as long as I can remember, I’ve been personally picking out most of my Christmas and birthday gifts—often going so far as buying and wrapping them myself—so the people closest to me don’t have to be pestered by my endless questioning.
Fortunately, Harrison hasn’t been too bothered by my anti-surprise stance and is totally fine to let me handpick my presents for nearly every gift-giving occasion. So on Monday, he took me Christmas shopping and helped me pick out some great wardrobe basics and gorgeous statement pieces. When heading out on a shopping adventure, one of my No. 1 style rules is to wear comfy, casual pieces that aren’t annoying or frustrating to take on and off. Not wanting a boring ensemble, however, I decided to spice up this basic outfit with little details that make it pop, from animal print and lace detailing to quirky earrings and shoes with some unexpected shine.
I love this top because it’s so soft and comfortable, but the peekaboo lace detailing and peplum waist give it a feminine touch. Paired with a simple pair of black denim and some of my favorite gold-trimmed pumps, it was the perfect outfit to get me through a day of Christmas shopping—for myself!
