Today is the start of a big, busy week for me (and yes, “The Bachelor” premiere and The Golden Globes factor heavily into that). It’s also the first day in what feels like forever that it hasn’t been far below freezing outside. I wanted to take advantage of the brief respite today—don’t worry, single-digit temps are coming back with a vengeance tomorrow—and wear a few of my lighter-weight, cool-weather staples.
They may not look all that warm, but this was often a typical winter outfit for me when I lived in North Carolina. I never realized how lucky I was not to have to bundle up in 10 layers every time I wanted to step out of the door, but hey, the grass is always greener.
Not only did I decide to lighten up the fabrics and layers today, but I also went for a neutral palate of white, tan and basic brown. I even threw on a pair of lighter-than-usual jeans, which is a big deal for this dark-denim-all-the-way girl. To add just a touch more excitement to the ensemble, I pulled out one of my favorite oldie-but-goodie bags, a graphic Dooney & Bourke that my sister-in-law gave me many Christmases ago.
I had been on the hunt for a pair of fashion-meets-function brown ankle boots for months, and Harrison got me the perfect pair for Christmas. It’s honestly hard to find an outfit that these don’t go with, so you’ll probably be seeing a lot of them, at least until spring.
I’m also beyond excited to be wearing these new mala beads—the necklace with the pearl beads and beautiful tassel—from Harrison’s stepmom’s new jewelry and accessories line, Mala and Mantra, which launches next month. If you’re into yoga, meditation or just looking really cute, you should definitely check out the collection. It will be available at select retailers when it first launches, but the pieces should be online for anyone to buy by the end of the year.
How do you take advantage of winter warm spells?
