Ever since I moved to Philadelphia last October, I’ve been working from home full time. And though I love the freedom of making my own schedule (and getting to see puppy Paul all day!), I sometimes fall into the rut of dressing down in jeans and T-shirts nearly every day. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with that (it’s a comfy outfit, after all), I really miss getting dressed up in business-casual outfits like the ones I would wear to my past office-based jobs.
So now that we’ve gotten a few warms days here recently (and by warm, I mean in the 40s, which would be considered cold if I still lived in North Carolina), I’ve tried to pull out a few of my lighter layers for days of working at home. First up were these casually classy Calvin Klein pants that I used to adore wearing around the office. Paired with a knit shell, a basic black blazer and a major statement necklace, it creates an outfit that’s perfect for both a day in the (home) office and after-work drinks or dinner.
I rarely wear high-neck tops like this one, but it turned out to be a great background for this huge beaded necklace (which I also spotlighted by throwing my hair up into a high, messy bun). To be honest, I forgot I even had this piece until I found it while rooting around in my under-the-bed storage a few days ago, but it’s such a great basic layering piece that I’m ecstatic I rediscovered it. And now that I’ve reminded myself why I love dressing up for work, I think I’ll start doing it more often, whether I’m working from my home office or the cafe down the street.
