With all the ground we’ve covered; German Pilsners we’ve consumed; and pretzels, Brats, and pommes frites we’ve eaten, Berlin is already starting to wear me out, even after just one glorious day in the German capital. We spent the entire day yesterday walking around East Berlin, stopping in at little gastropubs and even playing a round of mini golf at one beer garden, which was a blast despite the fact that Harrison beat me.
I’ve never been to Germany before, so I had no idea what to expect from Berlin, but it’s a much more modern city than I had imagined. Though it still has some beautiful old-school architecture, like the Berlin Cathedral and the Bode Museum, a lot of the city is full of fairly new skyscrapers and shopping districts.
We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather for our day on the town; there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and it was in the 50s, which practically feels like summer after all the months of cold we’ve suffered through at home. To celebrate the bout of spring-like weather, I pulled out one of the new purchases I made while in London: a quilted white dress with gathered-waist detailing. Contrasting it with opaque black tights, black and gold accessories, and suede flats, it was an easy black-and-white combo to sport for a day of exploring.
We’re off to explore West Berlin today before we head back to the US tomorrow, and I can’t wait to see what it has in store. (My guess: More beautiful sites and lots more beer gardens!) Stay tuned for more updates!
