My mom is without a doubt my best girlfriend—one, because she’s super awesome and two, because we love almost all of the same TV shows (I say almost because I rightfully refuse to watch Dancing With the Stars). And practically ever since the show first aired back in 2004, we’ve been watching Project Runway—and its various spinoffs—together and dishing about our favorite (and least favorite) designers from week to week, season to season.
That’s why I was really excited last night to head right down the street with my friend Katie and see one of the latest Project Runway winners, Dom Streater, live and in action while showing off her Spring Capsule Collection.
Though the collection was small—consisting of around 10 pieces, with an emphasis on blouses, dresses, skirts and the occasional rain jacket (or cape, rather)—it was gorgeous, graphic and wonderfully colorful and the perfect thing to get me in a spring state of mind on a cold, dreary day.
You know I love a good black-and-white piece, so I was instantly drawn to this laid-back collection, but I also loved the pops of purple the Philadelphia-based designer injected into her latest creations. And though they’re loose-fitting and relaxed, the structured cuts and bold, graphic patterns give it the perfect amount of polished-meets-quirky-chic edge.
I’ve got my eye on the purple-checked blouse, but I’m pretty sure that polka-dot shift dress could find a cozy little home in my spring and summer wardrobe, too!
And as a little bonus, I thought I’d include a shot of this adorable chalk-paint door in the dressing room of the boutique that played home to last night’s pop-up shop. Isn’t it the best?
Check out more of Dom’s work here, and if you like what you saw above, be sure to shop her spring collection now!
