Coney Island

How is the weekend already over?! I had a really great one, spending some quality time with my mom and Harrison before finally catching up on a quickly growing pile of work I had been neglecting.

On Friday, my mom and I took the train out to Coney Island for the very first time, and we couldn’t have had more fun. The trip itself was pretty simple—just an hour each way—and the beach was absolutely beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that I immediately started kicking myself for not making a trip out to this part of Brooklyn before now.

In any case, we spent a few hours walking along the beach and the pier, exploring all of the cool rides and shops, and having a few drink at Ruby’s. (I somehow resisted eating a Nathan’s hot dog, but I know it will be the first thing I devour the next time I head out to Coney Island.) For my beachside day, I threw on a basic outfit featuring my favorite summer sun hat, a casual black tank, some white embroidered shorts and a few classic accessories.

It’s only been three days since our adventures on Coney Island, but I’m already planning for the next trip, which will definitely involve a bit more beach time (and, gasp, maybe even a bathing suit!).

What’s your favorite outfit to throw on for a beach day?

Friday Four

Happy, happy Friday, everyone! Mom and I are heading off to Coney Island today (our planned trip for last weekend got postponed), and I’m really excited to finally explore all the destination has to offer (and yes, that includes hot dogs!). Tomorrow kicks off some birthday activities, though I’ll probably keep it pretty low key with a nice brunch and a little shopping.

But before the festivities begin, let’s take a look at everything I’m wanting to eat, live with, wear and visit this week:

food, cooking, baking, dessert, cake, cake recipe, turtle cake, turtle caramel cake recipe, decor, home decor, coffee table books, books, dogs, new york, the new york dog, fashion, style, accessories, jewelry, statement jewelry, statement necklace, baublebar, travel, niagara falls, nature

Clockwise from top left:Turtle cake; The New York Dog; statement necklace; and Niagara Falls.

Eat: Chocolate Turtle Cake (recipe via The Cake Blog)

Not that I need an entire cake for my birthday (because seriously, I would eat it all), but I certainly wouldn’t turn down something that looks this delicious and indulgent.

Live With: The New York Dog by Rachael Hale McKenna

Filled with page after page of adorable pooches in and around the city of New York, this book could not be any cuter. So naturally, I need it on my coffee table ASAP.

Wear: Statement necklace by BaubleBar

This isn’t a new phenomenon or anything, but BaubleBar has really been killing it lately with its gorgeous jewels—especially when it comes to the brand’s stunning statement necklaces. I’ll take one of each, please!

Visit: Niagara Falls

I’ve been itching to take a little weekend trip for a while now, and I’m leaning more and more toward the idea of heading up north to check out the beauty that is Niagara Falls. Have you ever been before?

What are you loving this week?

Friday Four

Happy first day of August, everyone! August is always my favorite month because, you guessed it, it’s my birthday month, and I’m so excited it’s finally here again. I’m also excited for the weekend, as my mom is coming to see me tomorrow and spend a week here in New York. Though I’ll have to spend a lot of my time at work, sadly, we’ve got some fun activities planned, and I’m sure we’ll have an amazing time.

But before I start prepping the apartment for her arrival, I wanted to share everything I want to live with, visit, eat and wear this week:

home, decor, home decor, decorating, interior decorating, interior design, tray, perfume tray, vanity tray, travel, new york, nyc, new york city, coney island, food, cooking, baking, desserts, dessert recipes, cookies, cookie recipes, chocolate chip cookies, fashion, style, summer style, skirt, voluminous skirt, printed skirt

Clockwise from top left: Perfume tray; Coney Island; yummy cookies; and voluminous skirt.

Live With: Minimalistic perfume tray (photo via Margot Austin)

I’ve been amassing a quickly growing collection of perfume that’s getting too big for the little tray I’ve been storing it on, which is why I’m looking for something a little bigger to keep on my mirrored nightstand. I adore the simple, neutral-toned tray above, which would definitely give me room for all of my fragrances and more.

Visit: Coney Island (photo via Etsy)

Despite visiting New York quite often and living here twice, I’ve yet to make a trip out to Coney Island. But come this weekend (or maybe next), that’s exactly where my mom and I are headed to have a fun day of exploring (and hot dog eating).

Eat: Pistachio Coffee Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies (recipe via Ambitious Kitchen)

I’m not quite sure exactly how these flavors manage to meld together, but I sure am planning on finding out for myself! Stay tuned to see the results…

Wear: Bird-print midi skirt from Chicwish

This skirt is a little outside of my comfort zone, but how adorable would the summery print look paired with a tucked-in, white satin tank?

Friday Four

Hello, Friday! I’ve got a busy weekend ahead (and not the running around town doing fun things with friends kind of busy), so it’s going to be mostly work, and just a little play for me. But that doesn’t mean I can’t look forward to the chance to sleep in a bit and head to a nice brunch on Sunday, right?

But (as always), before the weekend begins, I’m ready to share everything I want to eat, wear, live with and visit this week:

food, cooking, baking, sweets, desserts, cupcakes, chocolate chip cupcakes, chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes, fashion, style, bag, tote, accessories, work tote, work bag, nordstrom, rebecca minkoff, home, home decor, decor, decorating, interior decor, interior design, west elm, pouf, pom pom pouf, ottoman, pom pom ottoman, travel, restaurant, macaroon, laduree, laduree new york

Clockwise from top left: Cookie dough cupcakes; leather tote; pom pom pouf; and Ladurée New York.

Eat: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes (recipe via Sally’s Baking Addition)

How could I not love a recipe that combines two of my favorite sweet treats: cupcakes and cookie dough?

Wear: Leather tote by Rebecca Minkoff

Once again, I’m on the hunt for a professional-chic tote to carry with me to work, and this great bag from Rebecca Minkoff is definitely on my radar. The best part: It’s on sale now at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

Live With: Pom pom pouf by West Elm

I’ve been thinking about getting an ottoman or other little piece of furniture for our living room for a while now—a thought that was definitely cemented the second I saw these adorable pom pom poufs. I’ll take one in each color, please!

Visit: Ladurée New York, 864 Madison Ave. (photo via Flickr)

My mom’s coming to town next weekend, and I’m trying to think of some fun things to do and cute places to take her. One spot I’ve been wanting to hit: macaroon heaven Ladurée. I can practically taste the sweets now …

Friday Four

Happy Friday, everyone! This week really seemed to drag by, so I’m especially excited that it’s finally the weekend once again. We have a friend in town this weekend who I’m really looking forward to seeing, and—as long as the weather cooperates—Harrison and I also have plans to have a nice brunch in the park on Sunday.

But before any of that happens, it’s time to share everything I’m wanting to visit, wear, eat and live with right now:

fashion, beauty, style ,shopping, birchbox, birchbox store, birchbox soho, accessories, watch, michael kors, michael kors watch, charity, food, cooking, dinner, dinner recipes, tacos, taco recipes, shrimp tacos, shrimp taco recipe, home, decor, home decor, decorating, decoration, design, interior design, interior decorating, mirror, bone inlay mirror, serena and lily

Clockwise from top left: Birchbox store; Michael Kors watch; shrimp tacos; inlay mirror.

Visit: Birchbox Soho store, 433 West Broadway, New York (image via Birchbox)

I’ve been a Birchbox member for a few years now, and the day I get my little brown box in the mail is always one of the best of the month. Even though I’ll continue to get my beauty boxes monthly, I’m really excited that the company just launched its very first brick and mortar store in Soho! I guess I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow …

Wear: Gold watch from Michael Kors

I’ve been wanting a Michael Kors watch for years now and just never got around to buying one, but I think the time for excuses is over. Especially because his new Watch Hunger Stop campaign is donating 100 meals to the United Nations World Food Programme for every Watch Hunger Stop watch that’s purchased. Fabulous fashion for a good cause? Count me in.

Eat: Honey Lime Tequila Shrimp Tacos with Avocado, Purple Slaw and Chipotle Crema (from Tartine and Apron Strings)

I was hit with a craving for tacos this week, and that only intensified the second I saw these yummy (and beautiful) shrimp tacos. Now all I need to do is whip up a batch of guacamole and margaritas and get this fiesta started!

Live With: Bone inlay mirror from Serena & Lily

Every time I walk into my bedroom, I come face to face with my plain, boring, black-frame mirror, and I’m quickly tiring of it. Though this exact mirror may be a bit of a splurge right now, its intricate detailing and gorgeous pattern are just what I’m looking for to spice up my bedroom decor.

Friday Four

Happy Friday, all! Hope your week flew by as quickly as mine and that you’re looking forward to a nice and exciting (or relaxing!) weekend ahead. We’re going out with Harrison’s new coworkers tonight, and then possibly heading to a Yankee’s game tomorrow evening. Aside from that, I may try out a few new recipes, do a little more exploring and simply enjoy the gorgeous weather we’re supposed to have this weekend.

But before the weekend officially begins, I wanted to share everything I want to live with, wear, visit and eat (slash drink) this weekend:

home, home decor, decor, decorating, design, interior design, interior decorating, paint, yellow paint, pop of color, fashion, style, summer, summer style, summer outfits, summer dress, red dress, lace dress, ladylike dress, classic dress, classic style, travel, theater, outdoor theater, rooftop theater, nyc, new york, eat, food, drink, cooking, cocktail, summer cocktail, summer drinks, recipes, sangria, rose sangria, sangria recipe, sangria cocktail

Clockwise from top left: Yellow walls; red dress; rooftop theater; and fruity sangria.

Live With: Pop-of-color walls (photo via Veranda)

Not that we have much say in the matter, considering we rent our apartment, but I would love to be able to add a nice splash of color to the walls in just one room to breath a little more life and energy into our place. And seeing how gorgeous that yellow looks in the airy, tiled-floor hallway above, that’s the hue I’m going to be dreaming of all summer long.

Wear: Gorgeous red dress (photo via Fashionata)

Speaking of summer hues, I’ve been seeing so much red everywhere lately, from the streets to the red carpet. And though I’ve never been one to wear much of the color myself, I’m thinking this summer is the perfect time to change that with a beautiful red dress. I love the laser-cut number above, but I’d be just as happy with this one or this one, too.

Visit: An outdoor theater (photo via Rooftop Films)

Harrison and I went on an awesome movie date the other week, and I’ve been in the mood to go back to the theater ever since. And seeing as it’s summer, where better to catch a movie than outdoors (rooftop theater, anyone?)?

Drink: Rosé Sangria (recipe via A Cup of Jo)

On Monday, I mentioned the amazing brunch we had last Sunday, though I didn’t mention that the only thing disappointing about the experience was the not-so-tasty sangria. But I’m pretty sure this recipe would put the taste of that bad cocktail out of my mind completely (and I might just have to test that!).

Poppytalk x Target

I haven’t been camping since I was a kid or on a picnic for years, but I was ready to change that the second I saw this new collaboration between Target and Jan Halvarson of lifestyle blog Poppytalk. The collection, which hit stores just this week, is full of pretty party pieces perfect for your next romantic picnic or glamping trip and is so cute that even the biggest outdoors-haters will be ready to hit the woods (or at least the nearest park) in a snap. Check out some of my favorite pieces from the adorable collection:

I’ve always wanted a picnic basket, but couldn’t find a good reason to spend a lot of money on a cute one that I would rarely put to use. Fortunately, this pretty woven basket is a steal, and I’d love to pack it full of those paper cake stands, the floral-print thermos and the beautiful plaid blanket. And how great is that portable camping stool? I love it so much, I’d use it inside, too!

What’s your favorite piece from the Poppytalk collection?
