Introducing: The Warby Parker Fall ’14 Collection

It’s one of my favorite times of the year again! And no, I’m not talking about fall. I’m talking about New York Fashion Week, where all of my most-adored designer brands will be showing off their latest and greatest collections for the Spring ’15 season!

You know who’s also showing off a new collection? Everyone’s go-to glasses brand, Warby Parker, who debuted its Fall 2014 collection just this morning. Featuring nine new shapes in a number of different shades—including Crystal (for a more modern look), Striped Pacific (for a rich, sophisticated effect) and Petal Tortoise (for a soft, earthy feel)—the collection has a lot to offer in terms of great style.

Available online and in Warby Parker stores and showrooms, you can pick up pieces from the new collection today (and starting from just $95!).

To celebrate the new collection, the folks at Warby Parker asked me to pick out a few of my favorite shapes and shades. And because no glasses can be chosen without an outfit in mind, I thought it would be fun to design a lineup of fall outfits around each pair. Take a look at my picks:

Sweater / J.Crew Ring / Marni Necklace / Ted Baker Booties / Maiden Lane Watch / Nixon Denim / Current/Elliot Lipstick / Lancome Clutch / BCBGeneration

I love the thought of rich hues like navy and deep charcoal grey for fall, especially when they’re paired in a casual-cool look that can go from a Saturday of shopping to a lazy Sunday brunch. Throw on a layered sweater with a pair of rugged-chic distressed denim, and dress it up with a statement bootie, crystal-drenched necklace and metallic clutch for a look you’ll never tire of all season long.

Practically made for the office, this black, white and gold color combo would look gorgeous when paired with the mod Crystal glasses. Add a ribbed sweater to a pair of tailored-but-loose trousers, then complete the look with luxe booties, a statement neckline, a simple shoulder bag and another touch of lucite for a modern look that will never get old.

For those fall weekends when comfort is key (but you don’t want to look lazy), throw on a printed dress and accessorize with heels, sweaters, bags and jewelry in earthy tones of tan, brown and burgundy (which couldn’t match the Woodgrain Tortoise shade any better!).

There’s something about tortoiseshell that feels so classically luxe to me, so naturally I would want to wear it with a look that reads feminine and polished. And what better way to achieve that than with a ladylike skirt, gilded accessories, leopard-print pumps and a swipe of deep red lipgloss?

September Want List

Happy September, everyone! I hope you all had a nice Labor Day weekend. I spent my days off shopping a little (though I didn’t pick up quite as much as I had hoped to), reorganizing our unruly closets and finally catching up on some reading. Though I would have loved to spend my days lying on the beach or at least hitting the pool, I think relaxing around the house was just what I needed to recharge for the busy month ahead.

And speaking of the month ahead, I’ve already got my eye on quite a few things I’d like to make mine in the coming weeks. Check them out below:

fall outfits, fall style, fall wardrobe, style, fashion, shopping, clothing, bag, work bag, suede bag, leather bag, banana republic, home, home decor, decor, furniture, bench, storage bench, boots, ankle boots, ankle booties, suede booties, club monaco, bracelet, jewelry, accessories, cuff, cuff bracelet, c. wonder, skirt, flared skirt, sweater, sweatshirt, uniqlo, jeans, denim, distressed denim, boyfriend jeans, madewell, shoes, flats, d'orsay flats, suede flats, black flats, lipstick, beauty, makeup, red lipstick, bobbi brown, dress, burgundy dress, fit and flare dress, nicole miller

Bag / Banana Republic Booties / Club Monaco Bench / Young Parisian Beds Bracelet / C. Wonder Skirt / Oasis Sweatshirt / Uniqlo Flats / Dee Keller Lipstick / Bobbi Brown, “Candied Red” Dress / Nicole Miller Denim / Madewell

I spotted this Banana Republic bag on Saturday while shopping and came this close to picking it up. Though I’m still weighing my fall bag options, this one is definitely high up on my list. Also high on that list: new fall shoes, including some suede ankle booties for casual weekends and a pair of D’Orsay flats for days at work when I don’t feel like wearing heels.

The flared skirt from Oasis and fit-and-flare dress from Nicole Miller would make good work pieces, too, while the cozy pullover and that pair of distressed boyfriend jeans would create a perfectly casual-chic number for one of the first crisp Saturdays of the season.

In the beauty department, I’m on the hunt for a slightly deeper shade of red, and my accessories collection is totally calling for that cobalt blue-accented cuff from C. Wonder. On the home front, we’re in search of a storage bench to put in the corner of our living room, and I adore the luxe feel of the velvet version above.

What’s on your must-have list for September?

Ready for the Runway

It’s finally here! And no, I’m not talking about the 2014 Winter Olympics; I’m talking about New York Fashion Week. I wait months and months for the best week of the year (well, two of the best weeks, technically, since Fashion Week happens in both the spring and fall), and now that it’s here, I’m like a kid on Christmas morning.

Despite the fact that I’m on a mad dash to get a billion and one things done before we leave for Europe next Thursday, I know I’ll be glued to the live stream and Style.com over the next eight days to catch every possible glimpse of the Fall ’14 collections. There are a ton of new designers I’m excited to see on the runways this season (including Nonoo and Katie Ermilio), and even though I end up checking out all of the collections, there are a few shows I look forward to more than any others. Check out which designers I’m dying to see this (and every) year:

I have no problem admitting that I’m a huge fan of any designer who shows off beautiful, girly, elegant gowns on the runway, so I can’t wait to get my hands on snaps of the collections by Jenny Packham, Monique Lhullier and Naeem Khan (among several others).

Seeing as I’m in love with classic style, crisp pieces and perfect tailoring, it should come as no surprise that I cherish seeing the polished creations from designers like Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and Victoria Beckham.

I may be a traditionalist, but I love a dose of fun, bright and sometimes daring fashion every now and then. I’ve become a huge fan of the Noon by Noor collections over the past several seasons, and I’ve long been in love with J. Mendel and DVF.

These are by no means the only shows I’m looking forward to this year (Michael Kors, Bibhu Mohapatra, and Lela Rose, among others, get my heart racing, too), but they’re definitely the ones for which I’ll drop anything to watch on the live stream or wait to see the photos of with bated breath.

Color-Blocked Neutrals

I’ve long been a fan of the color-blocking trend, but I’ve always been shy about trying it out with bold, bright color mixes like the ones that look so amazing on the runway and in street-style photos. So when I saw this toned-down tricolor sweater in Express several weeks ago, I knew it was the ticket to subtly exploring color-blocking for myself.

Black, white and tan are three of my favorite colors to wear on their own, but they also combine to create a classic—and classy—combo that’s perfect for the neutral colors I sport in the fall. Paired with some black denim, glam flats, gilded jewelry and bright red lipstick, this color-blocked sweater is a safe way to make a bold statement.

Easy Glam

After a long day of travel yesterday, I finally made it home to my family in North Carolina late last night. And though most of my visits home are full of running around with my mom, seeing friends and family, and getting lots of girl time in (manis, pedis, hair cuts, movies, etc.), I couldn’t have been happier to have a semi-lazy day to restore my energy today. Mom and I did manage to get a few girly activities in, but most of my time has been spent cozied up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate, a cuddly dog and snow falling outside.

For such a relaxing day, I needed a pretty laid-back outfit, too, which is why I went with my comfiest black T-shirt and black jeans. To spice it up a bit, I mixed in two of my favorite trends—leopard print and emerald—to create a casual-meets-glam look.

Even though I love living in a big city, it’s nice to escape to the beautiful hills and woods around my parents house. Being surrounded by nature is completely restorative and really helps me forget about everything on my long to-do list—one of the many things I’m super thankful for this time of year.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Travel Time: 5 Tips for Packing

Thanks to months studying abroad, family all around the country and years in a long-distance relationship, I’ve become an old pro at traveling—and packing to travel, in particular. For years, packing was something I dreaded. I’d take hours going through outfit possibilities, only to get frustrated and end up throwing a million things haphazardly into a bag. Once I got to my destination, I’d open up my suitcase to realize I had a bunch of clothes to wear, but no outfits I actually wanted to put on. But since I’ve started traveling more frequently, I’ve finally figured out how to quickly, efficiently and stylishly pack for any destination.

I’m heading home in the morning for Thanksgiving, and since there’s a good chance you may be traveling during the holidays, too, I thought I’d share a few of my biggest tips and tricks for painless packing.

1. Make a List

I’m a huge fan of making lists for everything, and packing is no exception. Keep track of what to pack by separating items into categories (like clothing, accessories, technology, etc.) and writing down each item you’ll need or want to bring. Because I’m a planner at heart, I even go so far as to detail every outfit I’ll wear on my trip, down to the jewelry, hair and makeup. This way, I know I won’t be stuck on my trip without the right coat or the cute necklace that ties my whole outfit together.

Like I mentioned, I used to pack a zillion items for every trip I took. But after having to carry just a small suitcase during my travels in Europe, I learned how useful it is to pack multipurpose items I can mix and match to make several outfits. For my upcoming trip, for example, I can wear a white button-down multiple ways, whether it’s on its own, with a cardigan or layered under a sweater. This cuts down on the amount of luggage I have to tote around, and it’s easy to use a statement necklace, a beautiful scarf or a bright belt to give each outfit life.

Rather than throwing all my accessories and jewelry together in the same bag or section of my suitcase, I’ve found it’s much less of a hassle to keep them separated. I haven’t been smart enough to buy a traveling jewelry case yet, so for now I pack my necklaces, bracelets and earrings in separate bags or pouches to keep them from tangling. I also keep scarves, belts and other accessories in a zippered section of my suitcase to avoid having to dig through my whole bag for the one piece I need.

packing, travel, travel advice, travel tips, holiday travel, packing tips, packing advice, how to pack, jewelry, accessories, makeup, necklaces, earrings, fashion, style, bracelets4. Keep It Organized

Nothing’s worse than an overflowing suitcase, so keep things streamlined by organizing items when packing. I start by laying my shoes along the bottom of the suitcase to keep them from getting my clothes dirty. Then, I finish the bottom layer by packing up my pajamas and workout clothes. On top of that, I add shirts, sweaters, dresses and bottoms. Roll clothes rather than fold them to fit in as many pieces as possible, and lay bulkier or delicate items across the top of the suitcase (see below).

A carry-on is your saving grace when it comes to traveling, so it’s essential to pack it smartly. I always include an extra outfit—as well as jewelry, my computer, chargers and any valuable items—in my carry-on in case my suitcase gets lost (God forbid!). I also try to pack anything I might need during my flight, train or bus ride, like magazines, books, snacks and my purse.

What I’m Wearing: Brights + Browns

Harrison and I are heading to the 76ers game tonight (hooray for a mid-week outing!), and I could not be more thrilled. I love sports, and even though I’m not a huge NBA fan, the excitement of watching a live sporting event definitely makes for a fun time in my books.

So what to wear to an NBA game when it’s absolutely freezing out? Layers are key to staying warm outside but cool when I’m packed into the stadium with thousands of other people. A lightweight sweater and skinnies make a great foundation, and my over-the-knee knit socks, riding boots and cozy scarf—plus a big, heavy coat, of course—are cute but functional additions. I love a splash of color in the winter, so I went for a salmon-pink sweater that makes the warm browns in the rest of my outfit really pop.
