Happy September, everyone! I hope you all had a nice Labor Day weekend. I spent my days off shopping a little (though I didn’t pick up quite as much as I had hoped to), reorganizing our unruly closets and finally catching up on some reading. Though I would have loved to spend my days lying on the beach or at least hitting the pool, I think relaxing around the house was just what I needed to recharge for the busy month ahead.
And speaking of the month ahead, I’ve already got my eye on quite a few things I’d like to make mine in the coming weeks. Check them out below:
I spotted this Banana Republic bag on Saturday while shopping and came this close to picking it up. Though I’m still weighing my fall bag options, this one is definitely high up on my list. Also high on that list: new fall shoes, including some suede ankle booties for casual weekends and a pair of D’Orsay flats for days at work when I don’t feel like wearing heels.
The flared skirt from Oasis and fit-and-flare dress from Nicole Miller would make good work pieces, too, while the cozy pullover and that pair of distressed boyfriend jeans would create a perfectly casual-chic number for one of the first crisp Saturdays of the season.
In the beauty department, I’m on the hunt for a slightly deeper shade of red, and my accessories collection is totally calling for that cobalt blue-accented cuff from C. Wonder. On the home front, we’re in search of a storage bench to put in the corner of our living room, and I adore the luxe feel of the velvet version above.
What’s on your must-have list for September?
I’m finally back, everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts last week; both summer and an increasing amount of work finally caught up to me, so I decided to take the week off. But onto things that truly matter: The past couple of days have been heaven, as far as summertime weather goes. It’s barely been above 80, with (mostly) blue skies all the way. And while I’m definitely not complaining, it’s hard to get used to summer days that don’t have me dying from humidity and heat the way they used to in North Carolina.
In any case, I’ve been trying to take advantage of the cooler weather, and that certainly applies to my wardrobe. I don’t often get to wear dresses with sleeves in July, but yesterday was the perfect opportunity to throw on one of my favorite LBDs with a pair of caged heels and a bright red lip. Paired with a jeweled clutch—which I made myself; stay tuned for the simple tutorial!—it was a classic-meets-glam ensemble that’s practically made for date night.

Though this will probably be the last time I can wear something like this until September, I’m just happy I got one last chance to pull this basic beauty out before fall.
Have you been working any fall pieces into your summer wardrobe?
I truly wish I could be writing this post after actually witnessing a Triple Crown win, but unfortunately that just wasn’t in the cards this year for California Chrome. I did, however, get to enjoy a fabulous evening out for the exciting horserace (as well as the disappointing Rangers game that followed), so at least I got to celebrate something: The chance to wear one of my favorite sundresses!
I have no shame in admitting that I’ve owned and loved this dress for years, but for some reason I only wear it on the rare occasion when I’m doing something super-summery or preppy (like heading to a summer wedding or actually attending a horserace). But nothing was going to stop me from throwing it on this weekend when both the weather and the occasion couldn’t have been more ideal. Paired with my favorite snakeskin belt, a polished woven clutch and my new favorite sheer lip balm, it was the perfect ensemble for the classic event.
I adore the fit-and-flare shape of this printed dress, and the side pockets are not only chic, but also really convenient. But my favorite part? Definitely the low-V cut in the back, which adds just a touch of sexiness to spice up this sweet ensemble.
What’s your favorite ladylike piece to sport in the summer?
There are a ton of perks to working from home—making my own hours, occasionally working in my pajamas, hanging out with this guy—but I’ve recently discovered one of the major downfalls: no office holiday party. And since Harrison’s company is doing a staff-only party this year, my chances of attending a festive affair are quickly dwindling. Fortunately, we’re having a small holiday get-together with friends this weekend and we’ll have a nice dinner by ourselves on Christmas day, so I still have a few chances to get decked out before the season’s up.
I’m sure many of you will be heading to a few holiday parties over the next several days, too. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been so busy this month that you’ve barely had time to think about what to wear. Worry not, ladies: I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve, whether you’re heading to a casual gathering with friends or a dress-to-impress soiree. Check out these four holiday party outfits fit for a budget or a total blowout:
For those get-togethers with friends and family that are just too casual for a dress, pretty pants are the way to go. Opt for a brocade pair or one in a holiday hue like bright red, burgundy or emerald. Pair it with a dressed-up top, statement heels, a metallic bag, gorgeous gems and a bold beauty look.
A fit-and-flare dress in a winter color or material is sure to look understatedly festive, especially when it’s paired with a shoe that screams, “Happy Holidays!” Pile on some gorgeous bling, a ladylike coat or blazer, and a metallic clutch, then seal the deal with a bright or deep red lip.
