Fashion Week Favorites, Part 1: NYFW Spring ’15

How this happened, I’m not quite sure, but we’re already halfway through the Spring ’15 season of New York Fashion Week. For the last four days in a row, I’ve been tuning in to as many live streams as possible and waiting, poised and ready, to pin every pretty outfit I see walking down the runway (check out a full list of my favorites from this season here!). And even though there are still four days of stunning spring style left to play out, I’ve already noticed a few trends throughout the first half of the shows. Check out a few of my faves:

Wow-Worthy Whites

Clockwise from top left: Dion Lee, Cushnie et Ochs, Honor, Ralph Rucci, Porsche Design and BCBG Max Azria

Summer, winter, spring, fall. I don’t care what season it is: All-white outfits are super chic. They’re also ruling the runways this year at NYFW, with everything from polished dresses and plunging jumpsuits to floaty skirts and sleek separates making an awe-inspiring appearance.

Outfit-Making Coats

Clockwise from top left: Porsche Design, Christian Siriano, Trina Turk, Victoria Beckham, Josie Natori and Rebecca Taylor

Who needs a stunning ensemble when you can simply throw on a spring coat like one of these, head out the door and be the most fashionable girl in sight?

Fun + Flirty Embellishments

Whether it’s candy-dot beads like those at DKNY and Honor or fringe and feathers at practically every other show, not-your-average embellishments are making their way into spring (and make a lack of accessorizing totally OK).

Va-Va-Voom Skirts

fashion, style, spring, spring style, spring fashion, fashion week, nyfw, new york fashion week, spring 15 fashion week, new york fashion week spring 15, dress, spring dress, voluminous skirt, voluminous dress, DKNY, Monique Lhuillier, Kate Spade New York, Christian Siriano

Clockwise from top left: Christian Siriano, Kate Spade New York, Tome, Tracy Reese, DKNY and Monique Lhuillier

Airy midi skirts and flouncy minis will never go out of style, but next spring is all about the voluminous skirt, whether it hits above the knee in a stunning watercolor print or all the way down to your ankle in a delicate lacy overlay.

What are some of your favorite looks and trends from the first half of Spring ’15 Fashion Week?

Five Things I Need From New York Fashion Week

Where has the week gone?! It seems like just yesterday that I was waiting anxiously by my computer to watch the first live-streamed runway show of the year at New York Fashion Week, and now it’s already the last day of the Fall ’14 collections. For the most part, I was thrilled with a lot of the collections (Milly, Jenny Packham and Lyn Devon, in particular), and I’ve come away from the week as a fan of a few new designers, including Novis and Nonoo.

Even though there’s still a handful of collections left to be shown today (most notably Ralph Lauren, J. Mendel and Calvin Klein), I’ve already figured out several things I need to get ready to add to my closet (or at least dream about) come next fall. Here are the five things I’m craving for Fall ’14:

1. A brilliant black coat

fashion, style, fashion week, new york fashion week, nyfw, fall 14, fall 2014, fall 2014 new york fashion week, mercedes benz fashion week, designers, designer clothing, designer fashion, designer style, coat, fall coat, black coat, wool coat, pamella roland, reem acra, josie natori, victoria beckham, altuzarra, milly

Clockwise from top left: Pamella Roland, Reem Acra, Josie Natori, Victoria Beckham, Altuzarra and Milly.

As much black as I wear, it’s kind of insane to realize that I don’t have a great go-with-anything coat in the hue hanging in my closet. But seeing all of the amazing tailored pieces that walked down the runway in the Fall ’14 collections, I know it’s one piece I can’t go another winter without.

2. Something—anything—in this rich blue hue

fashion, style, fashion week, new york fashion week, nyfw, fall 14, fall 2014, fall 2014 new york fashion week, mercedes benz fashion week, designers, designer clothing, designer fashion, designer style, blue, rich blue, blue clothes, silk, blue silk, silk dress, blue dress, blue silk dress, blue pants, blue silk pants, noon by noor, rachel roy, lela rose

From left: Noon By Noor, Rachel Roy and Lela Rose

I fell in love with this silky, super rich, ultra-luxe shade of blue last month when I saw this skirt, and I think I almost squealed with excitement when I saw it popping up in a number of collections for next fall. The chances of me grabbing one of these exact pieces is admittedly small, but I’ll definitely be on the lookout even more now that I know designers have fallen in love with the color, too.

3. The entire Lela Rose collection

Lela Rose

Lela Rose

There are some NYFW collections you like, some you hate and some you’re absolutely obsessed with, which was the case for me with the Lela Rose lineup. From the delicate colors and detailed fabrics to the sophisticated silhouettes and refined lines, Lela Rose had my heart from the moment that first dress stepped out onto the runway. Anyone generous enough to buy me the entire line?

4. Fur, fur + more fur

fashion, style, fashion week, new york fashion week, nyfw, fall 14, fall 2014, fall 2014 new york fashion week, mercedes benz fashion week, designers, designer clothing, designer fashion, designer style, fur, faux fur, fur scarf, fur stole, fur coat, fur dress,

Clockwise from top left: Dennis Basso, Victoria Beckham, Bibhu Mohapatra, Carolina Herrera, ADEAM and Badgley Mischka

Thanks to my love for luxe, feminine detailing, I’ve always been a fan of rich fabrics like sequins, feathers, pony hair and more, and for the upcoming fall season, it looks like my focus will be switching to fur. From fur-lined shift dresses and fluffy fur stoles to full-on fur coats, I’m crazy about both the warmth and chic factor these pieces never fail to provide.

5. A Valentine’s Day-inspired outfit

fashion, style, fashion week, new york fashion week, nyfw, fall, fall clothes, fall style, nyfw style, designer clothes, designer style, designer fashion, red, pink, red sweater, red skirt, pink sweater, pink dress, pink lace dress, marissa webb, jenny packham, dkny

From left: Marissa Webb, Jenny Packham and DKNY

I’ve never been one to wear a lot of pink or red, but after seeing the shades pop up again and again (often together) on the runway, I’m itching to bring a taste of Valentine’s Day into my fall wardrobe.

Now that you know what I’m obsessing over, tell me: Which collections and pieces stole your heart at NYFW?

Ready for the Runway

It’s finally here! And no, I’m not talking about the 2014 Winter Olympics; I’m talking about New York Fashion Week. I wait months and months for the best week of the year (well, two of the best weeks, technically, since Fashion Week happens in both the spring and fall), and now that it’s here, I’m like a kid on Christmas morning.

Despite the fact that I’m on a mad dash to get a billion and one things done before we leave for Europe next Thursday, I know I’ll be glued to the live stream and Style.com over the next eight days to catch every possible glimpse of the Fall ’14 collections. There are a ton of new designers I’m excited to see on the runways this season (including Nonoo and Katie Ermilio), and even though I end up checking out all of the collections, there are a few shows I look forward to more than any others. Check out which designers I’m dying to see this (and every) year:

I have no problem admitting that I’m a huge fan of any designer who shows off beautiful, girly, elegant gowns on the runway, so I can’t wait to get my hands on snaps of the collections by Jenny Packham, Monique Lhullier and Naeem Khan (among several others).

Seeing as I’m in love with classic style, crisp pieces and perfect tailoring, it should come as no surprise that I cherish seeing the polished creations from designers like Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and Victoria Beckham.

From left to right: Noon by Noor, J. Mendel, Diane von Furstenberg

I may be a traditionalist, but I love a dose of fun, bright and sometimes daring fashion every now and then. I’ve become a huge fan of the Noon by Noor collections over the past several seasons, and I’ve long been in love with J. Mendel and DVF.

These are by no means the only shows I’m looking forward to this year (Michael Kors, Bibhu Mohapatra, and Lela Rose, among others, get my heart racing, too), but they’re definitely the ones for which I’ll drop anything to watch on the live stream or wait to see the photos of with bated breath.

Friday Four

I’ve yet to figure out how it’s already the last day of January, but I do know that I’ve already started freaking out (in both good and bad ways) over the fact that our Euro trip is less than two weeks away. The list of things I have to do and lists I have to make (ironic, huh?) before leaving for our vacation is overwhelmingly huge, but fortunately, things have slowed down enough this week to give me a few opportunities to start preparing.

My less-stressed schedule means I’ve also had a bit more time to catch up on a fat stack of neglected magazines and scour the Internet for new things to love. So without wasting any more time (I’ve got lists to make, people!), here are the four things I want to wear, visit, eat and live with this week.

fashion, style, dress, spring style, spring dress, cute dress, floral print, floral dress, sleeveless dress, spring fashion, clothes, clothing, emerson fry, shopping, travel, marc jacobs, food, cooking, recipe, dinner recipe, salmon, salmon recipe, caramelized salmon, caramelized salmon recipe, home, home decor, decor, design, interior design, decorating, diy, diy table, diy decor, diy duct tape table

Wear: Floral-print dress by Emerson Fry

I saw this adorable dress last week when Emerson Fry released a sneak peek of its spring 2014 collection, and I just can’t seem to get it out of my head. Even though Harrison and I have plans to do some shopping in London in a few weeks and I know I’ll have a ton of amazing pieces to choose from across the pond, I have a sneaking suspicion that I’ll be saving a spot in my closet just for this sweet, spring piece.

Visit: Marc Jacobs pop-up shop at New York Fashion Week

So this is totally cool: During Fashion Week (which starts next week!), Marc Jacobs is opening a pop-up shop from February 7-9 that will—get this—let shoppers “buy” accessories and fragrances using social mentions like tweets and Instagram photos! As if I needed another reason to want to be at NYFW …

Eat: Caramelized Salmon (recipe via Pinch of Yum)

In an attempt to keep things low key before we go all out on our vacation, Harrison and I are minimizing our eating and going out for the next couple of weeks. That basically equates to a lot of movie nights and homemade meals, starting with dinner tomorrow night. I’m planning to make a semi-healthy salmon-based meal, and this recipe is just what I was looking for. It not only sounds delicious, but—even better—it only requires five ingredients. Hallelujah!

Live With: Duct tape table (seen in the February 2014 issue of Real Simple magazine)

I was flipping through the latest issue of Real Simple a few nights ago and came across this really great piece called “Big Ideas in a Small Space.” I love pieces with decorating tips for small apartments (since I seem to always end up in them), but what really caught my eye in this one was the amazing duct tape table designer Michael Garvey created in his kitchen. The process sounds super simple (flip to page 131 for directions), and it ends up giving the table a leathery, large-scale crocodile-skin pattern that looks so chic and really luxe. We have a pair of white coffee tables in our living room, and now I’m seriously inspired to try this DIY myself. Weekend project, anyone?

What are you dying to wear, visit, eat and live with this week?

NYFW Spring ’14 Breakdown: Part 2

You know that feeling on the last day of a long vacation, where you’ve had an amazing time, but you’re secretly craving the chance to get back to a normal schedule? That’s how I always find myself feeling by the last day of New York Fashion Week. I love seeing each piece and collection, but there’s just so much going on—from the actual shows and behind-the-scenes sneak peeks to the star-studded after parties and all the style sites’ reviews—that it’s almost a sensory overload. And I say that without even being there!

Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the Spring ’14 collections—though there were a few disappointments for me—and can’t wait for the next round in February.

Check out a few of my favorite trends and looks from the second half of NYFW:

NYFW Spring ’14 Breakdown: Part 1

The most amazing thing about New York Fashion Week—aside from the gorgeous clothes, obviously—is how quickly it all goes by. I feel like it was just hours ago that I was tuning into the first live stream show and pinning all of my favorite outfits (check them out here), but sadly, we’re already through the first half of the Spring ’14 NYFW collections.

I’ve been swooning over entire collections at a time (Lela Rose, Tadashi Shoji, and Christian Siriano, to name a few), and I’ve even found some favorites among designers I’m typically not crazy about.

Here’s just a sampling of my favorite trends and pieces from the first four days of Fashion Week:

Fortunately, there are still three (and a half!) more days of shows to catch, and then it’s on to London Fashion Week! Which looks and collections have been standouts for you so far?

NYFW Spring ’14 Kickoff

I said this to my mom yesterday, and I genuinely feel like it’s true: This may be the best week ever. Not only is it a four-day work week (always a plus in my book), but Thursday is also the kickoff of both the NFL season and New York Fashion Week. Be still my heart!

If you couldn’t tell, I absolutely adore Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. There are few things I love more than watching every show possible on the live stream and picking out the pieces and designers I would die to wear (though I may love actually being there a little more … ).

To celebrate one of my favorite weeks of the year, here’s a quick breakdown of the shows I’ve got specially marked in my Spring ’14 Fashion Week calendar:
