Cute + Classy Collars

I have zero problem admitting that I often look to today’s teen stars for some major style inspiration. These little ladies include (but certainly aren’t limited to) Kiernan Shipka, Hailey Steinfeld, Elle Fanning and, of course, Chloe Grace Moretz. So when I saw Chloe sporting the most adorable Miu Miu shift dress the other day—complete with a nerdy-chic collar and beautiful sequin detailing—I immediately wanted a collared dress for myself.

Naturally, I started my hunt for the perfect collared dress right away, where I quickly came across 12 dresses I’d love to add to my wardrobe (some budget friendly, and some a little out of my price range). Check them out:

Though the solid-hued dresses are perfect for any occasion, I’m really loving the bright, fun + eye-catching prints on the numbers from Peter Pilotto, True Decadence, Saloni and Mela Loves London—especially for the last few weeks of summer.

Do you already own some collared dresses? If not, would add one to your wardrobe?

Best Dressed at the 2014 Oscars

The month of February (and the first week of March) is such a fabulous time of the year, what with the endless array of fashion weeks and—my favorite!—the Oscars taking place. This year was no exception, and the hours I spent glued to the TV to catch a glimpse of every last star walking down the red carpet at the 86th Annual Academy Awards were 100 percent worth it. On the whole, I thought last night’s red-carpet looks were the best of the season (which is only natural for the biggest awards show of the year), and there were way fewer worst-dressed contenders than in years past.

In the moment, it can be difficult to tell which gowns will be lasting legacies that are mentioned year-in and year-out in the roundups of “Best Oscar Dresses Ever.” And while I’m not sure if there were any major contenders last night—though I’d be happy to be wrong about that—there were a ton of gowns that I thought looked, if not utterly amazing, then truly gorgeous.

Though it would take me forever to run down the list of everything I loved (and why) on last night’s red carpet, I did narrow the list down to my top 10 favorite looks. Check them out:

10. Kerry Washington in Jason Wu 9. Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab 8. Chrissy Teigen in Monique Lhuillier 7. Giuliana Rancic in Paolo Sebastian 6. Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein Collection

I’m ignoring the wrinkles and water stains on Kerry’s gown, mainly because this color and cut look so impeccable on the mommy-to-be that I can’t focus on anything else. Angelina looked flawless, as always, and the way this dressed dazzled when the light hit it nearly took my breath away. Chrissy has become an odd fashion obsession of mine as of late, and I was thrilled to see her sporting something so romantic, yet still glam, at last night’s show. Giuliana was probably one of the biggest surprises of the night, nailing her look completely in this princess-y gown with gorgeous detailing. And Naomi, of course, can do no wrong, especially when wearing a designer like Calvin Klein. And that hair! I die.

Charlize was Charlize, looking nothing but smoking hot in her architectural Christian Dior number, while Lupita left me nearly speechless in her plunging, accordion-pleated gown that made her look like a pretty princess. Despite my desire to see her in something other than Dior, J.Law totally rocked it in her fits-like-a-glove peplum number, and Sandra looked like a vision in that luxe satin navy number from Alexander McQueen. But despite all of the gorgeous gowns on last night’s red carpet, my best-dressed look of the night was (by a long shot) Cate Blanchett. In my eyes, it’s really hard for Cate to do any wrong, especially when it comes to wearing high-fashion couture gowns that she makes look like total pieces of art. This nude dress, which suited her skin tone perfectly, was an absolute dream and—for more reasons that one—I wish I could have been at the awards show to see the impeccable detailing up close.

Now that you’ve seen my list of the best dressed, which stars do you think nailed their red-carpet style at the 2014 Oscars?
